Are you a racist?
It's my belief that being born and raised in Canada, in a society with both political and socioeconomic systems that privilege white folks over other ethnic groups, that I need to be intentional about unlearning the ways I have been conditioned to perform whiteness. Although it is never my intent to be racist, I can be.
Why write about racism?
I hope to use this blog to reflect on and explore more deeply my day-to-day interactions with the world as a white person and to reflect on the impacts my own attitudes, values, behaviours and choices have. I also want to become more aware of ideas related to white supremacy, colonialism and institutional barriers to inclusion, diversity and equity.
What do you believe?

- I believe that everyone is capable of learning, changing and growing
- I believe that white folks need to take responsibility for their own learning about racism and for developing anti-racist practices
- I believe that we must go beyond individual behaviours and change systems, policies, and practices
- I believe I will continue to make mistakes and that I must be responsible for the consequences of the impacts of my words and actions
- I value transparency and appreciate direct feedback
- I value social justice movements
- I am not comfortable with the label ally or the term woke
